About
The U.S. Soybean Export Council’s Soybean Value Calculator (SVC) is an innovative tool that enables crushers to calculate and
compare the economic value of crushing and refining soybeans. Specifically, it estimates the economic value of crushing and
refining U.S. soybeans versus those from other origins, primarily Brazil.
Beginning with origin-specific whole soybean characteristics, the calculator estimates the true, quality-adjusted whole soybean
crush margin by accounting for co-product yields, soybean meal nutrient value, soybean oil refining costs, and plant efficiencies
based on individual or company data of soybean composition, physical factors, and crushing and refining assumptions.
The soybean composition, physical factors, and crushing assumptions in the tool are estimated based on research and industry experts.
The soybean meal premium is estimated from the Nutrient Value Calculator,
while the soybean oil quality and refining yield estimates are derived from the
Soybean Oil Value Calculator.
However, users are highly encouraged to enter data specific to their facility or
experience, along with actual soybean compositional and physical factor data of whole soybeans.
The ultimate computation of the SVC is the estimated benefit of U.S. Soy relative to other origins on a $/MT basis, extended to a daily and annual basis.
